Clan War Guidelines and Expectations

We are a clan that enjoys clan wars so expect them to happen.  The current schedule is wars will start every Friday at 5pm eastern time.  If you don't want to participant or you think you can't please let someone know this ahead of time and plan to shift to villa for the duration of the war.  It's important to know this in advance as planning needs to be done to allow the maximum number of people to participate.

We have had a few instances where players have been selfish and not been thinking in terms of what is best for the clan.  We are relatively layed back but when investing 2 days in a war effort it is extremely frustrating when some people choose to serve themselves at the risk of losing the war.  For clarity the following rules must be adhered to with regard to Clan Wars.  Violation of these rules are grounds for being booted.  Some of these are further mentioned and detailed below.

Bannable Offenses
•TH snipping (essentially looting).  Don't do it.
•Looting.  (See details below)
•Not preparing for CW.  TH and cc should be protected.  Repeated violations will become an issue.
•Not attacking at all.  Schedules are tight so please shift to villa if you can't particpate.  Repeated violations of not attacking will be an issue.
•Complete absense of Communication.  Check in with chat prior to attacking.  Complete out of the blue attacks will be viewed unfavorably even if the outcome is good.  Repeat violations here will become an issue.  We are a clan i.e. a team...basic communication is essential.
•Don't donate War CC troops that are not requested, except in cases where there is an hour left in Prep Day and there is no request.

A Clan War is very different from farming in both your defense and offense.  Your base defense is obviously different in that you're trying to minimize odds of being completely wiped out as well as preventing your TH getting destroyed combined with a high percentage of building loss.  Remember a TH + 50% of structures is 2 stars...on the other hand 99% destruction with only the TH left is only 1 star.  This dynamic affects not only your defense but your offense.  Yes, those troops you don't build because they cost so much elix or DE and take so long...the ones you're not familiar with.  It's important to realize your farming army almost certainly will not be able to 3 star a base...it's not what they're designed for nor is it important.  Farming is all about getting the resources who cares if you get trophies or what percentage you destroy.  So it's important when doing upgrades think about some balance as in what may help you on your next CW; what will contribute to your CW Army vs only farming.  Spend some time practicing with these armies intermixed with farming.

Clearly we want to win so what are the best ways for us to do that?  Most definitely there are multiple strategies that affect our odds.  "It takes a clan not a man" is very true and it could definitely come down to a few or even one attack so make your attacks count.  Consider this thread a living thread it doesn't belong to anyone..if you think of changes to content or structure bring it up and maybe it will get added.  A general strategy at this time is as follows and will change over time:

Day 1 Preparation Day
•If you're not participating inform ppl and shift to villa preferrably at least 8 hours before the start of the war.
•Get your base in order at least one hour before the end of the prep phase.  Chances are TH and cc should be centered.  Maybe a good idea to review your unprotected snipable buildings.
•Update your cc request showing the date i.e. 01/15: (Request)  Be specific.  Get this request in as early as possible after prep day starts to give people enough time to fill the request.  Message on chat that it's there and check back to be sure your cc gets filled before the end of the preperation day.
•We want the maximum reasonable strength troops possible in CW cc's.  Donate what you can.  A lot of burden falls on the higher players in terms of elixir and dark elixir.  There isn't a lot of difference between level 5 and level 6 wizards so upgrade your wizards to level 5 when you can and contribute.
•If you're the top base maybe consider pulling out your TH to lure looters on the opposing side.  Of course discuss this and agree in advance with leaders and Co-leaders.

Day 2 War Day
Current Strategy:  First attack with mid and bottom players.  Potentially second round of attacks with same player set followed by first and second attacks by top players.  This allows us to fill from the bottom up, if you will, getting maximum potential stars and allowing best potential odds for cleanup.
•Bottom 80% attack (i.e. 11 down to 50 in 50vs50 war).  Seek the best base you think you can 2 or 3 star.  This is only a guideline to try and shoot for.  It's understandable that people are in different timezones and have tight schedules that may not allow for this.
•Since only stars you gain for the war count toward your "War Hero" achievement it's nice to give everyone a shot at a fresh base.
•Look to attack at or near your recommended base. Don't aim too high to try and impress and don't aim too low because you are nervous. You get two chances so if the first doesn't go well aim lower and vice versa. If the first goes very well maybe try something a little harder and would normally be out of your comfort zone.  We improve most by challenging our selves.
•If it's close we may want to have the same group do second attack.  Seek out fresh or bases with 1 star and try to get 2 or 3.  Don't hesitate to ask for advice in chat on strategies.  At this stage it is also nice to ask in chat or mention the base you're going after and be considerate of others who may be planning to attack the same base.
•Top 20% of players may attack before this depending but at this stage if mid and lower players have put forth their best effort to get maximum stars then the top 20% can make the best decision on getting the maximum impact on cleanup.

Don't LOOT lest you get the BOOT!  (Details on this below)

DO's
1.Do activate and attempt to lure enemy cc and heroes out and destroy first.  There are exceptions of course if you're doing an all air attack and you know the cc troops aren't a real threat or perhaps you're attack is an early rage and you feel your odds are best to kill cc in the rage given your time available.
2.Do improve your walls:  Chances are it's too late to do weapons upgrades however after CW started you still have 24 hours until your base is fixed...so if you have wall weakpoints upgrade them now.
3.Do wait to do your second attack.  Give a little time and let most in the mid and bottom complete their first attack.  Then we can assess best odds at 2nd attacks.  Remember only the best attack on a base counts so if you have a 2 star you want to be sure as heck you can get 3 vs attacking something with 1 to try and get 2 which you may have better odds at.
4.Do get out of the farming mindset.  Do practice runs on Trophy bases ahead of time.  Spend the elix to make CW army to give yourself the best odds...don't think save think stars...that goes for DE too...it's only 2 attacks.
5.Do prepare your base for trophy defense.  Protect TH.  If possible centralize cc so when you click on it the parimeter is hard for opponent to lure your troops out.  You want them to come out when enemy has started their real attack...they can be most disruptive that way.  They don't all come at once...and it can really botch an attack from the time it takes alone to lure out and destroy your cc troops.
6.Do be careful in base preparations.  Some things can work against you. For example having all four corners with hut may take more time for the enemy to wipe you however it may also prove as an advantage when the enemy is trying to lure your cc.  Once they get all cc troops out dropping a barb on that far building will draw ur cc to it for easy dispatch.
7.Do put in your cc troop requests early on preparation day so you can get what you want.  Don't hesitate to ask and wait for higher level troops for your CW cc.
8.Do review your replays as well as others.  Especially if you feel it wasn't good as mentioned we learn the most from mistakes.
9.Do look at any replays if they exist on a base you plan to attack.  Look multiple times see where the traps are and try to identify weaknesses.

DO NOT's
1.Don't Leave the clan (i.e. don't visit sister clans etc) AFTER CW has been declared or within 8 hours of the start of CW.  Chances are you will come back and will not be part of the war.   If you think you may want to leave the clan and ever want a chance at returning and the CW has started wait till it's over.
2.Don't use BARCH armies in CW.  This is a farming army.  If you're doing a BARCH attack it appears as though you're really too cheap to spend elix for a CW army (see looting below).
3.Don't just start donating to ppl in their CW cc.  Coordinate to be sure we can't get a better level troop for donation.
4.Don't be driven by revenge.  If a higher level attacks you chances are your base will be much more damaged.  They are  likely risking a lower average by attacking down. Don't just retaliate wasting your attack..stars are all that matter.  Spoils goto the victor of the war not the battle...show your patience and prowess barbarian!
5.Don't loot unless you've been given an ok by the general populous in chat at the time.  This is a topic unto itself discussed below.
6.Don't save your second attack until the end in hopes of being able to loot.  This includes TH snipping.
7.Don't be too hard on yourself..we all have attacks that don't go the way we wanted...what matters is you're going for stars for the clan!  You learn much more from your mistakes than your successes.
Looting
The primary focus of Clan War is of course to win the war..in addition to the obvious it gets us the best loot.  What is looting...simple it's going for the maximum resources for you vs going for the maximum stars for the clan (This includes TH sniping).  Keep in mind the highest players are donating the bulk of the elixir and dark elixir for the masses and very possibly will have a net loss in those resources even on victory.  In a recent war the very top player purposely left his th exposed undoubtedly to lure looters.  GO FOR MAXIMUM stars for the clan.    If you see the top base or high base luring you out with an exposed TH and you snipe it to get your 1 star and it's apparent you don't have ability or real intent to get more stars this could easily be construed as looting.  This also will likely include using a BARCH army in CW which essentially gives an appearence of trying to spend the least elix to get a star for loot.  If you are suspected of looting you're attacks will be reviewed and if it's apparent you may get booted...it's just not cool.

When can I loot?
•IF it's a blowout .
•IF it's very apparent we don't need stars and it's very close to the end.
•IF you have done your best on your first attack and in a reasonable time are considering your second attack not having waited to the last minute in hopes of being able to loot.
•IF you have sent a msg to the chat mentioning "hey looks like we have this wrapped up anyone think I should go for more stars or should I loot?"  and received numerous "sure go for it" type messages.

sounds solid but we gotta keep it a little lax with booting because lots of these guys are young and starting school but good stuff sounds like you put a lot of work into this.
